It's never taken me three days, but I've had an all-afternoon filter


removal before. Those are definitely the ones where the filter finally comes off in pieces.

Some mechanics or quick-lube shops just love to overtighten the heck out of everything. While I admit, there are many fasteners on a car that need to be really, really tight. There are some that need to be hand tight or torqued to something a bit more specific than "just shy of breaking things" tight.

Trying to work on a car where the last person to touch it used a big 'ole impact wrench on everything is a complete pain.
